It is not as hard as you might think to learn how to fit a mountain bike. Some will say it is easy and some will say it is hard but if you take the time to learn about your machine and about how you will be using it, you should be able to get it right in no time.

The first thing you should think about is how far you can take it. I am not talking about how many miles you can go or how much speed you will be riding at. You will be using your bike more for distance and less for speed, so the speed you are using is very important.

You should find out what the top speed of your bike is and find out what it can do before you start fitting it. Do not worry too much about your time because you will be measuring the time that you will be riding your bike and the top speed of your bike. There is a lot of difference between the two, so it is best to know them both before you get started.

Once you know the top speed and the distance you will be taking your mountain bike on then you will be ready to begin fitting it. Here are some things to remember:

You need a long bike rack. The number of people you plan to carry will determine how much you need to buy. If you want to carry a few pups or children, add extra to your rack. You can find them at sporting goods stores or online.

You will also need some poles. These come in different lengths, but all the ones that you see are about 3 feet long. You should only use the ones that are for a three-foot rack. Most mountain bikes come with one or two but if they do not, you can add extra.

The pole you are going to use is usually held onto by four screws and then attached to the bike by four bolts. When you attach the bolts to the screws, make sure that you screw all four fasteners into the same spot. If you do this you will not have any trouble when you are removing the pole from the bike.

Install the wheel, either at the front or rear. Take note of where the spokes are to the wheel. Take those measurements to the center of the rack and make sure that they are facing forward. Be sure that you have plenty of room in the back as well.

Install the wheels on your rack. Take a look at your bike and see where the axle goes. Get a screwdriver and put the screw in so that it will screw the axle in place. Use plenty of wiggle room to get the wheel to the correct height.

Make sure that your wheels are ready to be installed. Once the wheel is in place, check the other bolt to make sure that it is tight. If you are tightening it, use enough wiggle room to ensure that it is tightened evenly. The last thing you want is to tighten a screw too much.

Once the wheel is set, install the wheel. Screw the other bolt in and do a little wiggle room. Tighten the screw until it is the right level.

Those are the basics of how to fit a mountain bike. Keep in mind that these are only a couple of tips that you can use to find a good fit for your mountain bike. Use your measurements and your feelings to determine whatis right for you.
